The Cambodian Cashew Association expects large-scale cashew nut exports to Turkey (Türkiye) after the opening of its representative office in Phnom Penh in early February.
Mr. Suy Kokthean, vice president of the Cambodian Cashew Association, told the Khmer Times yesterday that the export of high-quality Cambodian cashew nuts through Kingdom Hub Agro, the first Turkish-owned enterprise based in Cambodia, is expected in 2025.
Kingdom Hub Agro is committed to promoting direct trade and strengthening economic ties between the Republic of Turkey and Cambodia.
The company will hold an official inauguration ceremony on February 11, attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Cambodia, Turkish trade representatives and key stakeholders, including other relevant associations and companies.
“The aim of exporting cashew nuts is to export large quantities, although the exact quantity has not been determined. However, there are large companies in Turkey that need cashew nuts in large quantities,” he said.
“The export of cashew nuts will start after the new harvest season,” he added. Once the nuts are processed, they will be exported immediately after that.”
Mr. Suy Kokthean stressed that from 2025 onwards, Cambodia’s cashew sub-sector will see a year of change, especially with the increase in processing capacity. This is due to the factory built in 2024 starting operations as well as the establishment of a cashew agro-industrial park in Kampong Thom province by the government.
In addition, global trends are changing with regions such as Africa also focusing on processing their cashew nuts.
He added, “As a result, many investors are expected to focus on sourcing for processing, especially in Cambodia, which ranks second in the world for cashew production.”
Regarding the cashew crop, Mr. An Dara, director of the board of directors of the Cambodian Cashew Federation (CCF), said that Apple Agro Product and Kirirom Food Production will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s Trackintech Solution Sdn this week at the Ministry of Commerce.
The MoU will be signed for the export of cashew and mango products packaged under Cambodian brands to the markets of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
He said these activities will be in line with the National Cashew Policy 2022-2027, which has a vision of transforming Cambodia into a country that processes about 25 percent of its cashew nuts by 2027 and 50 percent by 2032.
Speaking at the inauguration of the achievements in Bun Rany Senchey Village, Damnak Truyeng, Kravanh District, Pursat Province yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Manet said the government has paid great attention to food security and the agricultural sector, recognizing its responsibility on two important aspects, including producers (growers) and consumers, to ensure good prices for sellers and also to ensure that selling prices do not increase too much, which affects buyers.
He said the Royal Government, together with ministries and specialized institutions, will not remain silent, recognizing that the agricultural sector is a major priority for Cambodia and the world.
Mr. Hun Manet stated, “The government is very concerned about food security and the agricultural sector. When we talk about food security, the government must be responsible for two important aspects: both producers/growers and consumers.
