Kampong Thom province has broken ground on a cashew nut processing plant to support the government’s goal of boosting domestic supply and exports.
The recent groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Mr. Sum Sokmpou, Secretary of State for Border Affairs and Senior Advisor to the Investors, Innovation and Development Association (IDI), Mr. Chea Vanchan, Deputy Governor of Kampong Thom province, and Ms. Pin Phirom, CEO of Unique Noble Trading Co., Ltd.
Mr. Chea Vanchan welcomed the construction of the plant, calling it a timely investment that aligns with the government’s priority to promote cashew nut processing in the province.
He said that 15,000 square kilometers of land in Kampong Thom province has potential, especially for industrial crops such as cashew nuts.
He added that the plant will improve cashew nut productivity and the livelihood of the people.
Ms. Pin Phirom noted that the factory can process 30 tons of cashew nuts per day and could create 200 to 400 jobs for locals.
The factory will also process cashew shells to extract oil and use as agricultural fertilizer. The factory is located in Sala Po Pel village, Sala Tset commune, Prasat Balang district. AKP
