Cambodia is expanding its rice exports to the Philippines, seeking export partners and buyers to establish partnerships on rice trade cooperation.
Ms. Kim Sreyrath, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, led a Cambodian delegation, including representatives from the Cambodian Rice Federation, to attend the Cambodia-Philippines Rice Market Matching Program at The Peninsula Hotel in Manila, Philippines.
Organized by the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, the event brought together key rice exporters and importers from both countries to explore opportunities to boost trade in the rice sector.
“The discussions focused on expanding Cambodia’s rice exports to the Philippines, improving trade facilitation, and enhancing the quality and efficiency of the supply chain,” she said.
She added that the rice business matching event discussed trade matching sessions through the B2B mechanism, fostering direct contacts between Cambodian rice exporters and Filipino buyers to strengthen trade partnerships and increase the potential for expanding Cambodia’s rice market to the Philippines.
Sao Kennaroth, vice president of the Cambodian Rice Federation, and members of the Cambodian Rice Federation accompanied the Ministry of Commerce delegation.
“The discussions are aimed at expanding the Cambodian rice market and strengthening relations with Philippine rice importers and key players,” the Cambodian Rice Federation said.
Last year, Cambodia exported a small amount of rice to the Philippines.
The Philippines is looking to import agricultural products from Cambodia to increase its food supply, according to Philippine Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr.
In a meeting in Manila with Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Secretary Dit Tina, the Philippine Agriculture Secretary said the Philippines is interested in importing a wide range of agricultural products, including rice, pork, beef, chicken, fish, and various types of vegetables and fruits.
He also noted the Philippines’ interest in investing in Cambodia’s rice milling and aquaculture sectors.
Dit Tina invited the Philippine Agriculture Secretary to visit Cambodia at an appropriate time to assess the country’s agricultural potential and facilitate discussions between private sector stakeholders from both countries.
The two sides also presided over the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the agricultural and agri-trade sectors between Cambodia and the Philippines.
