Cambodia has partnered with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Media Development (AIBD) to host the 20th Asian Media Summit (AMS) in Siem Reap from 20 to 25 July 2025. The 20th Asian Media Summit is themed “Media: Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence and the Way Forward”.
Siem Reap, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites, will welcome journalists from around the world to attend the summit.
To jointly organize the 20th Asian Media Summit in Siem Reap from 20 to 25 July 2025, the Ministry of Information has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Media Development.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, and Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, Director General of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Media Development at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday.
Tep Asnarith, spokesman for the Ministry of Information, said the signing of the MoU is to jointly begin the work of organizing the 20th Asian Media Summit in Angkor, Siem Reap, which will be held from July 20 to 25, 2025.
He added that the meeting is planned to invite participants from media outlets, keynote speakers and sponsors from around the world to help promote the potential of the tourism sector, rich cultural heritage, and beauty of Cambodia, especially to showcase Cambodia’s peace and development.
Along with the Asian Media Summit, the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting, which will involve 26 Asia-Pacific member countries, will also be organized, as well as a workshop on media development within the Asia-Pacific framework.
“Through these events, all actors will participate in exchanging experiences, opinions, and recording recommendations and inputs that will contribute significantly to the development of the information and media sector, as well as strengthening and expanding regional cooperation under the theme of Media: Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence and the Way Forward,” he said.
He added: “All related meetings and events are also an opportunity for the member countries of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and all participants to focus on discussing solutions and appropriate mechanisms to support joint efforts to combat fake news, which is a common problem of the members in the region, and jointly raise public awareness in preventing the spread of fake news to ensure peace and socio-economic stability in the region and in all member countries.”
Cambodia hosted the 16th Asian Media Summit at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap in 2019 under the theme: “Digital Media, Focusing on Market Development.” The event attracted approximately 600 media representatives from 42 countries.
In 2024, Minister of Information Neth Pheakta led the Ministry of Information delegation to the 19th Asian Media Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At that time, Mr. Net Pheaktra called on the member countries of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Development Institute to join Cambodia in the campaign to combat fake news, which is a common problem of the region, and called on member countries to join Cambodia in this campaign to jointly raise awareness among citizens. This initiative was shown with a stance of support and enthusiasm.
