The first conference of the Cambodian Cassava Federation (CFC) was held on Friday to promote cassava in the global market. The conference was chaired by Mr. Va Runsan, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, and was attended by about 120 participants, including representatives of relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, agricultural associations, cassava producers from 16 provinces and suppliers. As well as partner organizations including GIZ, HEKS, CARITAS, CLRD, etc.
Mr. Va Runsan said that the Cambodian Cassava Federation represents the private sector involved in the cassava value chain and will act as a representative of farmers and cassava traders.
The Cambodian Cassava Federation was established in accordance with the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, namely the National Cassava Policy, which is an apex institution for the private sector and is also a partner with the government, ministries departments in cassava development as well.
He added, “We strongly hope that the Cambodian Cassava Federation will raise the profile of Cambodian cassava in the global market and gain recognition as an important source of quality, competitive and sustainable cassava supply.”
Oknha Chray Son, President of Capital Food Investment Import Export Company, who was elected as President of the Cambodian Cassava Federation, said: He is very happy to receive support from cassava producers, collectors and other stakeholders.
He is committed to building the federation with a vision to improve the cultivation techniques on the land identified by the roadmap, which is a priority yield factor for the farming community.
He added, “I want to see the smiles of cassava farmers, who are the driving force behind the cassava value chain, which is the backbone of our Cambodian economy.”
Cambodia Cassava Federation It will also work with development partners and organizations to expand and strengthen cultivation techniques, as well as strengthen production capacity with national and international standards for farming communities, especially the General Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
He added that the Cambodian Cassava Federation will work closely with the Ministry of Commerce to develop market plans for each target that Cambodia needs to capture and initiate strategies to ensure the value of cassava production.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries In the first half of 2024, Cambodia exported more than 1.6 million tons, up 385.49 percent from 344,750 tons in the same period last year. The ministry added that cassava flour exports also increased to 39,935 tons in the first half of 2024, up 104 percent from 19,500 tons in the same period last year. But cassava exports decreased by 8.86 percent.
