Ratanakiri, Cambodia – The CLESIDRA project has successfully completed the second phase of the RESCO (Resources for Social and Competitive Organizations) Assessment, which took place on May 9–10, 2024. This phase focused strategically on the cashew nut value chain, an essential economic sector in Ratanakiri Province.
The two-day assessment brought together a high-level focus group to generate and share important insights on cultivation practices, production challenges, and market strategies. By linking field-level realities with policy perspectives, the sessions offered a thorough understanding of the opportunities and constraints facing the cashew sector.
The assessment’s success was driven by the active participation of a diverse group of stakeholders, which ensured a well-rounded, inclusive approach to development planning. Participants included provincial and local authorities, such as relevant government departments, mayors, district governors, and commune chiefs, alongside producers and community leaders, particularly farmers and agricultural groups who shared practical, on-the-ground experiences. Development partners, including NGO representatives and researchers, also played a crucial role by contributing technical knowledge and analytical perspectives. This collaborative dialogue fostered a deeper understanding of the sector and supported evidence-based decision-making.

Facilitators from ILS LEDA (Italy) expressed their appreciation for the participants’ valuable contributions. The knowledge shared during the sessions will be essential in shaping targeted development strategies that address the actual needs of local producers and enhance the competitiveness of the cashew value chain.
After successfully completing the cashew assessment, the project is advancing to the next phase, which involves engaging stakeholders in the cassava value chain. This ongoing effort demonstrates the project’s commitment to strengthening the various sectors that contribute to Ratanakiri’s economic resilience.
