Ratanakiri, Cambodia – The CLESIDRA project has officially launched its strategic provincial evaluation with the successful completion of the first phase of the RESCO (Resources for Social and Competitive Organizations) Assessment, held on May 7–8, 2024. This initial phase focused on the rice value chain, which is a vital part of both the local economy and food security in Ratanakiri Province.

The sessions were led by Ms. Giulia from ILS LEDA (Italy), who introduced and applied the RESCO methodology to evaluate the strengths, risks, and development potential of the rice sector. This initial assessment serves as an important baseline for designing strategies that foster sustainable, inclusive, and competitive economic growth.
The recent assessment launch in Ratanakiri Province received significant backing from provincial leadership, uniting a diverse group of stakeholders dedicated to advancing the region’s development.
The project team extended their heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency Van Sophea, the Deputy Governor of Ratanakiri Province, for his unwavering support of the initiative. The assessment drew participants from various sectors, including provincial and district authorities, private-sector representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, and grassroots stakeholders such as local farmers and NGO partners. This diverse assembly of voices contributed to a thorough and inclusive examination of the rice value chain, ensuring that all perspectives were considered for sustainable growth in the region.

The rice-focused assessment is the first of four targeted evaluations under the RESCO initiative, each aimed at analyzing the key value chains that drive the province’s economy. The insights from this assessment will contribute to a broader roadmap to enhance competitiveness and sustainability across sectors.
Following the successful completion of this first phase, the project team will continue the assessment process by examining the cashew nut value chain, further expanding their understanding of Ratanakiri’s economic landscape.
This initiative is part of the CLESIDRA project (Civil Society Links and Empowerment for Socially Inclusive Development in Ratanakiri), which is funded by the European Union. The project is implemented through a collaborative partnership involving FELCOS Umbria, ILS LEDA, Building Community Voices (BCV), and Urban Poor Women Development (UPWD). Together, these organizations aim to promote inclusive development, community empowerment, and sustainable economic growth throughout Ratanakiri Province.
