Ratanakiri, Cambodia – After successfully completing a two-day training workshop, the CLESIDRA project has entered a new phase of field engagement. The project is now working directly with key stakeholders across the province to develop the PLASED Platform.
The strategic meetings concentrated on three of Ratanakiri’s most significant value chains: rice, cassava, and cashew nuts. These value chains will serve as the foundation for the platform’s future operations.
The field sessions were designed to connect the knowledge gained during the training to the practical challenges faced by local producers. By engaging directly with farmers, associations, and community representatives, the project aims to ensure that the PLASED Platform is rooted in the local context and responsive to actual needs. This hands-on approach allows stakeholders to actively shape a platform that reflects the economic realities of Ratanakiri.
In recent discussions, participants and facilitators explored critical aspects of agricultural development and market systems within the province. The dialogue focused on three primary areas:
- Production Dynamics: Evaluating the current farming capacities, techniques, and productivity levels among local producers and associations.
- Market Access: Identifying barriers that hinder access to larger, more profitable markets, such as logistics, pricing, and market information.
- Community Challenges: Understanding the broader socio-economic constraints faced by farming communities, including resource limitations and organisational hurdles.
These insights collectively highlight the opportunities and challenges in each value chain, offering a comprehensive understanding of the agricultural landscape in the region.
The findings from these engagements are crucial for the design and implementation of the PLASED Platform, a key component of the CLESIDRA project. By prioritising the voices and experiences of local producers, the platform is being developed as a practical tool for empowerment, collaboration, and inclusive economic growth. This participatory approach ensures that the platform effectively supports networking, value chain development, and sustainable livelihoods throughout the province.
