Ratanakiri, Cambodia – A significant milestone for regional development was reached with the official launch of the CLESIDRA project (Civil Society Links and Empowerment for Socially Inclusive Development in Ratanakiri). This marks the beginning of a multi-year initiative to transform the province’s socio-economic landscape.

The launch ceremony attracted 101 participants, including 20 women, representing a diverse range of stakeholders such as government officials, development partners, and community leaders. This varied attendance highlights the project’s commitment to a multi-stakeholder and inclusive approach from the very beginning.
The CLESIDRA project is designed to empower key demographics within Ratanakiri, specifically smallholder farmers, women, and youth. By enhancing the capacity, productivity, and market access of smallholder farmers, the project aims to improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable income generation.

Additionally, it places a strong emphasis on integrating women and youth into the region’s economic framework, ensuring their active participation in decision-making processes and recognizing their roles as vital contributors to the area’s socio-economic development. Through targeted support and resources, CLESIDRA is committed to building a more inclusive and prosperous community.
The project focuses on long-term resilience by honing in on four key economic pillars essential to the province’s growth. First, it will boost agricultural production by implementing strategic improvements in the rice, cassava, and cashew nut value chains, thereby increasing local farmers’ productivity and income.
Furthermore, eco-tourism will be emphasized, promoting sustainable travel initiatives that not only attract visitors but also support local communities while preserving the natural beauty of Ratanakiri. By targeting these specific sectors, the project aims to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of local industries, ultimately driving inclusive economic growth across the province.

The CLESIDRA project exemplifies a strong international partnership, supported by funding from the European Union and a collaborative effort between FELCOS Umbria, ILS LEDA, Building Community Voices (BCV), and Urban Poor Women Development (UPWD). This initiative is designed to empower local communities in Ratanakiri by combining the expertise of international specialists with the insights of local organizations.
Through this collaborative framework, the project seeks to enhance value chains and promote resilience, ultimately working towards a more inclusive future for all residents. By fostering these connections, the CLESIDRA project stands as a model for effective community development rooted in partnership and shared goals.
